Here is a super cute antique writing desk I found. The hardware won me over. It needed a major make over. I knew it had good bones. Those little legs just kill me!

Hmmm.... White, cream or black? I called my sis and she said white or cream. I agreed. I took the orbital sander and started getting all the old shelac off but didn't sand it too much because I wanted the awesome dark to show when I distressed it. I used Kilz spray primer because we love it! It is fabulous under white or cream and helps the paint to stick great when you don't want to sand too much.

I spayed her with 2 coats of creamy white paint from KWAL. These old pieces that I want to distress, we don't paint it tooo heavy because then it makes it easier to distress and it looks older.
The top was sanded off but it was soo old the top was no coming off so smooth and I didn't want rough it up too much so it was sanded more in different places and gave it a super cool weathered look. We stained it in Dark Walnut and sealed it with a Polyurathane gloss.

We sprayed the hardware with Rustoleum Oil-Rubbed bronze and then when it was still tacky I rubed the knobs so the gold popped through underneath. Most times the harware always looks better when it doesn't look too "FRESH". Especially on these older pieces. We then put a clear gloss on the knobs to seal them.It is hard to capture all the detail in these pictures.
Thanks for looking! Hope you love it!
