How to make a homemade stain.

Mckenna here,  I found this old antique children’s church pew. I’m in love with this! It is over 6 ft long and came from an old church in Idaho.
I thought it would be the perfect piece to demonstrate this homemade stain on. This stain will take the bench and give it a weathered, rustic look!

Get the following ingredients and do it along with me!

What you need is:
*000 Steel Wool
*Apple Cider Vinegar
*Glass Jar

Picture
First you are going to rip the steel wool into pieces and put it in the glass jar.

Now pour Apple Cider Vinegar into the jar until it covers the steel wool.

Here is the stain after sitting for 2 weeks. Isn't it beautiful?!

I'm going to sand the bench until the old finish is off. I don't want to sand too deep because I don't want to smooth out all the imperfections. All the imperfections in these old pieces of furniture is what gives it so much character and makes it more beautiful and unique! Embrace the flaws! :-)

Using a paint brush, brush the stain onto the bench until the entire piece is covered.
***Just a warning this stuff is so stinky!

Wait for it to completely dry about 2 days. Wipe it down with a clean, wet rag.  Then Polyurathane the piece.
