Neleh's favorite bedroom set transformation story!

This bedroom set had my heart thumping from the second I saw it. I knew I had to have this for my little girl, no question.
I had been looking for bedroom furniture with original appliques. They are hard to come by.
This is an early 1900's set I found, bought and went to work on. I bought it from a man in Salt Lake City, Utah, who worked at a well known antique store 25 years earlier. He had kept these pieces, thinking he would restore them someday.
I don't know how he could let them go, but his friend was helping him thin out his collection. Here is what some of the pieces looked like. They were filthy and fragile.
I was checking everywhere for tiny pieces of wood that had fallen off so I could glue them back on.

I had changed my daughter's bedroom set two other times because I kept finding cuter pieces, but this is here to stay!
The set came with two twin beds, the taller chest dresser, a desk and a dresser desk with a tri-fold mirror attached. I removed the hardware, cleaned it up and sanded it all down with 150 grit, to get all that old cream discolored paint off and make it smooth. I then sprayed it with Zinser Oil Based primer and two coats of white paint.
I wasn't sure what the original pieces looked like. I couldn't find pictures of the exact set anywhere on-line so I decided to glaze all the details and antique the pieces once the white paint was on. You can read how to do that HERE.  I loved how the details popped!

This is not the end of the story. Here is the super exciting part!!!!! Ready?????
We are friends with Brad and Carmen Herbert. We were out to dinner with them last month and they invited us back to the Governor's mansion after our date. (Brad's dad is the Governor of Utah) That place blew me away! It was an antique collector's paradise! I LOVE that place sooo much! I want to live there.... anyway....
While walking through the rooms, I was admiring all the furniture. Then I walked into a bedroom and guess what???? McKay's bedroom set was in there!! I freaked out like you wouldn't believe! It was soooo fun to see her set in its original 1904 condition. Wow, I still can't sleep at night thinking bout it :)
Here are the pictures I took in case I ever want to restore it back to the original. It was gold leafed and so adorable!

That is the short version of my story and my passion for this adorable set.
I am so happy I didn't pass up these pieces. I love it in her room and I am so happy I saw the potential in these pieces.
