Rose Dresser

Picture
Here is a darling little antique vanity we bought that an owner had left behind in a house. How could anyone not want this sweet little thing? If only they knew its potential :) We removed the mirror and hardware before taking this picture.

We sanded the piece down with a 15o grit sander and then applied a lighty coat of Zinser spray primer. At first we were thinking we were going to paint this piece white and glaze it but we get so bored with white and decided to change! We went with Valspars "Cameo pink" in a flat base.

We wanted to experiment with making our own appliques to put on the front so we made a mold from one of our other pieces and it turned out pretty good for our first and maybe last time. (This would take to long to explain... just buy your appliques :) it will save you money and time)

Her she is painted with her new appliques

We applied two coats of paint with our spray gun and we were ready to distress. Because the wood was so light underneath, I was afraid that when I sanded it,  the contrast would be boring. I thought about glazing the whole thing and then decided to just do a heavily distressed look on the piece to see what it would look like with the wood and the white primer underneath popping out. I wanted it to look very shabby chic and pop. I am glad I did this instead of the glaze!
I took the electric sander to all the edges and went crazy!!!!!
